Part-Time Camp Counselor
ROLE:
Rutabaga’s Nature Arts Camp is looking for a part-time Camp Counselor for our summer camp program. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic about children, art, and nature and has experience working in a summer camp program. This person is confident in taking the lead on creating an enjoyable, safe, and smooth experience for our campers and other staff members.
The part-time Camp Counselor is responsible for helping their team to plan, organize, and implement educational and recreational activities for campers (ages 4-10 years old) while ensuring each child's safety, well-being, and positive development. This role is an integral part of a small team with low ratios, therefore is a larger contributor to the overall success of our summer camp program!
Responsibilities:
Take the lead on the Extend Care activities with a small group of children
Assist camp staff with activity preparations
Helping to maintain a clean and safe camp space
Assist camp staff to ensure smooth transitions and safe movement of campers
Oversee group behavior, preventing altercations and injuries through non-confrontational, non-physical, and non-threatening techniques
REQUIREMENTS:
Prior camp counselor or teacher experience required
Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, and experience working with/supervising children
Ability to build relationships with students, parents, and assistants
Commitment to create a warm and positive environment
Excellent communication with staff and caregivers
CPR certification and first aid training. Training provided.
Able to be physically active with and engage campers.
Ability to adhere to a schedule and demonstrate flexibility with unexpected changes
RATE & Info:
Rate based on experience (~$18/hr)
Start ASAP. Position will run through August 25
Part-time, Approx 20 hours per week, 2:00 to 6:00PM (Monday - Friday)
Ability for 40 hr/wk during weeks of Aug 12 and Aug 19
Potential continued involvement in Rutabaga’s year-round Nature Arts programs
