Library Assistant

The ideal candidate has experience managing a group of children and is enthusiastic about guiding a child’s natural curiosity. But most importantly, this person believes in our mission and is ready to dive into this small business head-first to be an important intricate part of our growth.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Library Operations: 

    • Maintain cleanliness + organization of our space including playspace, bathrooms, and outdoor areas.

    • Assist with cataloging, inventory, and cleaning + maintenance.

    • Engage in positive customer experiences including helping customers with their toy selection and exchanges.

    • Maintain desk duties throughout shifts and answer questions and provide information to customers about pricing, services, and events.

  • Nature Arts Day Camps:

    • Gather necessary materials & prepare lessons

    • Lead structured and unstructured activities, ages 5-8

    • Maintain a safe environment for the children at all times

  • Birthday Party Facilitator:

    • Oversee weekend parties hosted at Rutabaga or at a Park

    • Create a fun experience for guests while supporting the party host

    • Lead the Eco-Activity with children during the party

    • Help maintain the space and supplies for parties


Qualifications:

  • Demonstrates a kind and friendly personality

  • Comfortable working in a busy & noisy environment

  • Shows strong attention to detail with a simultaneous eye towards customer experience

  • Ability to engage effortlessly with young children and caregivers of young ones

  • 2+ years experience as a teacher in a child-care or school setting

  • Experience in nature-based education is preferred

  • Ability to build relationships with students, parents, and assistants

  • Commitment to create a warm and positive environment

  • Confident managing a group of 5 to 8 year olds – 6:1 and 14:2

  • Resourcefulness during planning and execution of activities

  • Passion for low-waste lifestyle and able to express, share, and teach to students and assistants

  • Available on school holidays and breaks and weekends

  • State and Federal background clearances required (after hire is OK)

  • CPR and First Aid Certified preferred

  • Must be able to lift at least 40 lbs & walk long distances


Benefits & Details:

  • Room for growth and promotion within 

  • Hourly pay is based on experience ($12-16)

  • 30-40 hours per week

  • Base schedule: 

    • Tuesdays 8:30-4:30

    • Wednesdays 8:30-4:30

    • Thursdays 11:30-7

    • Fridays 8:30-1:30

    • Saturdays 8:30-4:30

  • Must be available some weekends and some school holidays

  • Available to start ASAP
