Safety of our members and guests are top priority

Rutabaga Covid Protocol

Safety of our members and guests is top priority at Rutabaga Toy Library.

We’ve taken extensive steps to evaluate our policies and to ensure the health and safety of families while in our space. Things may take a bit longer with these policies in place, so we appreciate your patience and understanding as we all navigate this together.

Read our member toy cleaning policy here.

Please stay home if you’re not feeling well or are showing signs of any of these symptoms. Anyone displaying symptoms will be asked to go home and take care.

Everyone must wear a mask. That includes staff, members, and guest ages 24+ months old. Remember, my mask protects you and your mask protects me. Masks should cover the nose and mouth and fit closely against the sides of the face must be worn at all times. Face shields alone are not an acceptable form of face covering. Guests wearing face shields will be given a disposable mask to wear in addition to or as a replacement for the face shield.

*Pennsylvania’s Department of Health Order and FAQ are available at the Pennsylvania Department of Health website. If you have a medical condition or disability that prevents you or a member of your family or party from wearing a face covering please contact us at hello@RutabagaPhilly.com

Our limited capacity. Rutabaga is operating at limited occupancy, in fact, lower than the state mandates. We also offer delivery and curbside pickup as an option for all members.

Enhanced cleaning protocols. All high-touch surfaces are cleaned and disinfected frequently. If people touch something a lot, clean it a lot. This includes toys that have been mouthed. Each guest is acted to play mouthed toys into a bin at the Rutabaga counter for disinfecting prior to reshelving.

Clean toys. Rutabaga members are expected to return toys in a clean condition. This means that the item (and container) should be clear of all dirt and gunk. When returned to Rutabaga, each toy is inspected for dirty and gunk first. Those things must be removed prior to sanitization. Once the toy is clean, then we sanitize. This process varies depending on the surface. If a toy is unable to be sanitized effectively, that item is quarantined for 2+ days prior to being reshelved.

Air flow and cleanliness is vital. Along with opening the doors and windows when possible, we maintain a clean filter in our industrial HVAC system and have invested in a True HEPA Air Purifier to keep the air flowing and clean throughout the day.

In addition to air filtering and cleaning, Rutabaga utilizes ozone to disinfect air and areas that cannot be reached. Ozone has been proven to be highly efficient and effective in disinfecting COVID-19. Rutabaga follows strict protocols when using the method and allows substantial time to air out prior to welcoming guests into the space.

Health screenings are required. Each member and guest will be asked to complete this simple health questionnaire prior to entering the space.

Hand washing is a must. All adults and children must wash hands  -- with soap and water -- before touching toys. Sanitizer is always available, but soap and water is ALWAYS preferred and encouraged. Re-wash as needed. You’ll find a handwashing station in the kitchenette as well as the bathroom.

Look for Symptoms. Symptoms of COIVD-19 include: Fever (100.4+ degrees), chills, muscle pain or body aches, headache or confusion, difficulty staying awake or waking up, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing. Congestion or runny nose. Sore throat. New loss of taste or smell, nausea or vomiting, and diarrhea.

We thank you for your cooperation, it takes a village!
